Sennheiser has unveiled a new, compact stereo shotgun microphone today, the MKH 8018 for broadcasting and filming applications. The high-class short gun mic completes the company’s MKH 8000 range of RF condenser microphones, which excel in the field due to their climate-proof ruggedness and natural sound capture with virtually no off-axis coloration. Providing flexibility to the audio engineer, the compact and lightweight MKH 8018 features three switchable stereo modes: MS stereo, wide XY stereo and narrow XY stereo. The MS mode allows the engineer to adjust the spatial imaging steplessly on the mixing desk, while the XY modes are premixed in the MKH 8018, with settings fine-tuned in many tests. The microphone will be on display at NAB, at the Sennheiser Group’s booth N1428.
The MKH 8018 RF condenser microphone is a compact stereo shotgun mic with three switchable stereo modes (MS, XY-wide and XY-narrow)

“The MKH 8018 is a high-class shotgun model that rounds off our MKH portfolio at the top end,” says Kai Lange, senior product manager for the MKH series. “It has extremely low self-noise and truly excellent sound, very clear and pure due to the mic’s great off-axis rejection. Moisture resistance, minimal non-linar distortion, and a balanced audio signal at the transformerless, fully floating output are further benefits of the RF condenser technology, which Sennheiser has been perfecting for more than 60 years.”

Lightweight, non-modular, and with a tailored frequency response
To make the MKH 8018 as easy to handle as possible, the Sennheiser engineers have given it an aluminium housing to have less weight on a camera or boom pole. Also, the microphone is – unlike most of the other mics in the 8000 series – non-modular with a fixed XLR-5M output and integrated -10 dB pad against overdriving, filters for tailoring the frequency response, and an additional switchable -3 dB low-cut filter at 70 Hz.
The MKH 8018 has been tailored to broadcasting and filming applications

As the MKH 8018 has been designed for broadcasting and filming applications, the usual extremely wide frequency response of the MKH mics has been limited to 40 – 20,000 Hz. This avoids any overloading of the mixing console with unhearable distortion below 40 Hz and above 20 kHz, where ultrasonic camera lens measurement systems are active.

Matrix inside
The MKH 8018 impresses with its homogeneous sound image, and can output MS stereo for further processing in the studio or on a mixer, or – via an internal matrix – XY stereo in a wide or narrow mode without the need for an external mixer. In XY-w, the mic emphasizes the side signal to a greater extent, thus capturing more ambience. In XY-n, the focus is more on the mid signal, giving the sound engineer more directionality.

The MKH 8018 is delivered complete with an MZQ 100 microphone clip, MZW 8018 foam windshield and a threaded plastic transport tube. The MZR 8000 camera adapter (pictured below on the right) wraps around the microphone body and ensures a secure fit with other mic clips and on cameras.

New applied research by the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has revealed that the use of large language models (LLMs) can dramatically accelerate the growth and productivity of startups. LLMs offer multiple benefits, such as task automation, improved decision-making, and enhanced customer experience through AI-driven marketing, CRM, and financial forecasting tools.

Dr. Tahseen Anwer Arshi, Associate Provost for Research and Sustainability and Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, AURAK, conducted the research, ‘Integrating Large Language Models into Entrepreneurial Ventures’.

The study provides actionable insights into the benefits of integrating LLMs into entrepreneurial activities, demonstrating the potential to empower and grow startups in areas like ideation, creativity, new product development, innovation, customer engagement, and service personalization.

Prof. Stephen Wilhite, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success and Provost at AURAK, says: “LLMs are critical to accelerating growth and speeding up processes in enterprises large and small. They push entrepreneurs toward peak performance due to the increased productivity resulting from automating of tasks. Our research delves into how LLMs empower entrepreneurs to harness automation smartly, leaving them to devote themselves to more complex tasks that can only be performed by humans.”

Dr. Arshi explains: “The use of LLMs in entrepreneurship is still developing, with few case studies available. However, promising examples include AI-based content generation start-ups using GPT-4 for marketing and software companies using LLMs for real-time coding. Our study demonstrates that LLMs enhance product innovation by automating tasks and facilitating rapid prototyping. They allow innovation teams to quickly create user interface descriptions, technical documentation, and wireframes, leading to faster stakeholder feedback and supporting agility in start-ups.”

Recent advancements have improved LLM technology further, moving beyond traditional transformer architectures to include innovations such as mixture-of-experts architectures and advanced quantization techniques (4-bit, 8-bit) that reduce memory usage while maintaining performance. Additionally, start-ups are employing hybrid deployment strategies combining edge computing with cloud-based model sharding for better resource efficiency.

The study recommends enhanced AI literacy among entrepreneurs through wider exposure to chatbots, recommendation algorithms and AI-powered analytics. Entrepreneurs should also be provided with hands-on opportunities with no-code AI tools like ChatGPT, Google AutoML, and Zapier AI. Such learning can be facilitated through AI hackathons, mentorship programs, and start-up accelerators. AI peer networks can be created through entrepreneur communities, LinkedIn groups, and local meetups.

The research paper was first presented at the International Conference on Business Management, Entrepreneurship & Circular Economy in November 2024. It is currently in the process of being released in Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering, published by Springer Nature.

The research carries great significance for businesses, since LLMs are widely hailed as key business drivers worldwide. Researchers at the International Institute for Management Development have termed LLMs a “technological tsunami” about to “reshape the global economic landscape”; while researchers at McKinsey estimate generative AI could add the equivalent of $2.6 to $4.4 trillion of value to the world economy annually.

Healthcare professionals are driven by a deep commitment to their patients, always striving to deliver top-notch care. Their dilemma? Healthcare workers are inundated with paperwork, according to new research from Salesforce, with 87% admitting they work late each week just to finish their administrative duties. This laborious work, as one might imagine, takes them away from time spent with patients. It also contributes to job burnout, a major concern as the industry faces painful turnover.

What’s more, the U.S. healthcare system averages $1 trillion in administrative spending annually, representing roughly 20% to 30% of total healthcare expenditure in the country.

But the days of wasteful expenditures, overworked staff, and suboptimal patient care may soon be coming to an end. As fate would have it, healthcare institutions stand to be major beneficiaries of agentic AI, as it can be the transformative tool used to completely rewire their industry. Take these three different healthcare trailblazers, for example, who are using Agentforce — the agentic layer of the Salesforce Platform — ‌to reimagine the future of the healthcare industry with digital labour.

Transcend works to reimagine telehealth
An innovator in the wellness industry, Transcend provides telehealth diagnostics and treatment plans to support health and fitness goals. They target root causes with scientific solutions that are customized to individual patient needs.

As demand for remote health grew, especially over the pandemic, ‌Transcend experienced a surge in client enrollment. Service reps found themselves multitasking far too often — handling orders, inputting data, and navigating multiple platforms to retrieve client information from various systems. The patient spike also took away from the white-glove approach they were accustomed to providing. The provider quickly decided it needed a new, technology-driven approach to its operations and care.

  • The Agentforce benefit: With Agentforce, Transcend will be able to meet demand 24/7 support with a limitless digital workforce. Its new agent-first approach will help its medical care clients start care immediately and keep up with it easily. Patients will be able to get immediate answers around a new treatment instead of waiting weeks to get a question answered in an appointment with their practitioner. Agentforce will help Transcend provide a premium, concierge-level experience that their clients expect.
  • Taking action: Always-on agents will also help Transcend differentiate itself from competitors by providing convenient customer service. For example, existing clients can immediately search for medication and text Agentforce with any questions as they begin their treatment. Powered by the Atlas Reasoning Engine — the brain behind Agentforce — the AI agent reviews data, surfaces insights, and takes action in real time. Once treatment begins, daily communication with a wellness concierge via SMS is facilitated.

When clients ask about a drug interaction, for example, Agentforce will automatically validate information, such as dosage or lab results, to ensure it meets safety standards. From there, Agentforce will connect them with Transcend’s wellness experts. In the past, this process was done manually and could slow client care. But Agentforce will soon take action on eligibility confirmation, autonomously verifying if a client qualifies for a service or treatment by reasoning across all of this data. With Agentforce, Transcend expects to improve response times by an estimated 30% and support more clients, faster.

“Agentforce will enhance Transcend’s customer support, improving efficiency and making it easier for more people to access treatment,” said Brian Glass, Chief Information Officer of Transcend.

Precina Health dials in on specific treatment
Precina Health is another provider using Agentforce to improve the level of care it’s able to offer, especially for patients with type 2 diabetes. They do this through daily personalized support, targeting lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, and habits to improve outcomes faster.

  • The Agentforce benefit: With the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes increasing across all age groups from 2021-2023, Precina needed scalable infrastructure to expand its diabetes care model. With Agentforce, the healthcare provider is now able to automate outreach, scale check-ins, and deliver life-changing care for improved outcomes. Supported by the agentic layer of the Salesforce Platform, Precina revolutionizes how the company delivers diabetes care. And by automating routine tasks and enabling 24/7 support, Agentforce frees providers to focus on high-impact intervention, while saving Precina an estimated $80,000 per year in administrative load.
  • Taking action: Instead of a patient waiting months for a clinical visit to adjust a medication dose or review a new dietary habit, Agentforce works behind the scenes, tapping into Salesforce Health Cloud and Data Cloud to instantly access their medical records, lab results, and prescription history. It then uses that data — securely and in compliance with HIPAA standards — to deliver tailored suggestions, recommend incremental lifestyle changes, and even coordinate prescription refills. Agentforce will also expand payer coverage with autonomous outreach and allow Precina to train and coach clinicians faster and more cost-effectively.

A new age of healthcare
Transcend and Precina Health chose Agentforce as their digital labour platform because it’s deeply integrated with Health Cloud and Data Cloud, a hyperscale data platform built directly into Salesforce that provides access to critical company data and metadata.

Using Agentforce, these healthcare leaders can seamlessly manage key processes from medication checks and pricing approvals to eligibility confirmation and even scheduling, allowing them to focus their attention on providing personalized support where it matters most, driving better outcomes for their patients.

For more on the future of healthcare, discover Agentforce for Health.

Phil Muncaster, guest writer at ESET explains that the malicious use of AI is reshaping the fraud landscape, creating major new risks for businesses.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is doing wonderful things for many businesses. It’s helping to automate repetitive tasks for efficiency and cost savings. It’s supercharging customer service and coding. And it’s helping to unearth insight to drive improved business decision-making. Way back in October 2023, Gartner estimated that 55% of organizations were in pilot or production mode with generative AI (GenAI). That figure will surely be higher today.

Yet criminal enterprises are also innovating with the technology, and that spells bad news for IT and business leaders everywhere. To tackle this mounting fraud threat, you need a layered response that focuses on people, process and technology.

What are the latest AI and deepfake threats?
Cybercriminals are harnessing the power of AI and deepfakes in several ways. They include:

  • Fake employees: Hundreds of companies have reportedly been infiltrated by North Koreans posing as remote working IT freelancers. They use AI tools to compile fake resumes and forged documents, including AI-manipulated images, in order to pass background checks. The end goal is to earn money to send back to the North Korean regime as well as data theft, espionage and even ransomware.
  • A new breed of BEC scams: Deepfake audio and video clips are being used to amplify business email compromise (BEC)-type fraud where finance workers are tricked into transferring corporate funds to accounts under control of the scammer. In one recent infamous case, a finance worker was persuaded to transfer $25 million to fraudsters who leveraged deepfakes to pose as the company’s CFO and other members of staff in a video conference call. This is by no means new, however – as far back as 2019, a UK energy executive was tricked into wiring £200,000 to scammers after speaking to a deepfake version of his boss on the phone.
  • Authentication bypass: Deepfakes are also being used to help fraudsters impersonate legitimate customers, create new personas and bypass authentication checks for account creation and log-ins. One particularly sophisticated piece of malware, GoldPickaxe, is designed to harvest facial recognition data, which is then used to create deepfake videos. According to one report, 13.5% of all global digital account openings were suspected of fraudulent activity last year.
  • Deepfake scams: Cybercriminals can also use deepfakes in less targeted ways, such as impersonating company CEOs and other high-profile figures on social media, to further investment and other scams. As ESET’s Jake Moore has demonstrated, theoretically any corporate leader could be victimized in the same way. On a similar note, as ESET’s latest Threat Report describes, cybercriminals are leveraging deepfakes and company-branded social media posts to lure victims as part of a new type of investment fraud called Nomani.
  • Password cracking: AI algorithms can be set to work cracking the passwords of customers and employees, enabling data theft, ransomware and mass identity fraud. One such example, PassGAN, can reportedly crack passwords in less than half a minute.
  • Document forgeries: AI-generated or altered documents are another way to bypass know your customer (KYC) checks at banks and other companies. They can also be used for insurance fraud. Nearly all (94%) claims handlers suspect at least 5% of claims are being manipulated with AI, especially lower value claims.
  • Phishing and reconnaissance: The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has warned of the uplift cybercriminals are getting from generative and other AI types. It claimed in early 2024 that the technology will “almost certainly increase the volume and heighten the impact of cyber-attacks over the next two years.” It will have a particularly high impact on improving the effectiveness of social engineering and reconnaissance of targets. This will fuel ransomware and data theft, as well as wide-ranging phishing attacks on customers.

What’s the impact of AI threats?
The impact of AI-enabled fraud is ultimately financial and reputational damage of varying degrees. One report estimates that 38% of revenue lost to fraud over the past year was due to AI-driven fraud. Consider how:

  • KYC bypass allows fraudsters to run up credit and drain legitimate customer accounts of funds.
  • Fake employees could steal sensitive IP and regulated customer information, creating financial, reputational and compliance headaches.
  • BEC scams can generate huge one-off losses. The category earned cybercriminals over $2.9 billion in 2023 alone.
  • Impersonation scams threaten customer loyalty. A third of customers say they’ll walk away from a brand they love after just one bad experience.

Pushing back against AI-enabled fraud
Fighting this surge in AI-enabled fraud requires a multi-layered response, focusing on people, process and technology. This should include:

  • Frequent fraud risk assessments
  • An updating of anti-fraud policies to make them AI-relevant
  • Comprehensive training and awareness programs for staff (e.g., in how to spot phishingand deepfakes)
  • Education and awareness programs for customers
  • Switching on multifactor authentication (MFA) for all sensitive corporate accounts and customers
  • Improved background checks for employees, such as scanning resumes for career inconsistencies
  • Ensure all employees are interviewed on video before hiring
  • Improve collaboration between HR and cybersecurity teams

AI tech can also be used in this fight, for example:

  • AI-powered tools to detect deepfakes (e.g., in KYC checks).
  • Machine learning algorithms to detect patterns of suspicious behavior in staff and customer data.
  • GenAI to generate synthetic data, with which new fraud models can be developed, tested and trained.

As the battle between malicious and benevolent AI enters an intense new phase, organizations must update their cybersecurity and anti-fraud policies to ensure they keep pace with the evolving threat landscape. With so much at stake, failure to do so might impact long-term customer loyalty, brand value and even derail important digital transformation initiatives.

AI has the potential to change the game for our adversaries. But it can also do so for corporate security and risk teams.

Exergio, a company specializing in AI-driven energy management tools for commercial buildings, is bringing humanoid robots into the field. In March, it will begin training its first humanoid robot, powered by NVIDIA’s GR00T system, to improve management, detect faults, and enhance real-time system monitoring in commercial buildings.

Investment in humanoid robotics is growing. The global humanoid market was valued at approximately $2.43 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to $66 billion by 2032, which would translate to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45.5% during this period.

Meta, for instance, has recently launched a new division within its Reality Labs to develop AI-powered humanoid robots for physical tasks. Similarly, Tesla is launching its Optimus robot, a general-purpose humanoid meant to perform tasks that are dangerous, repetitive, or boring for humans. Google’s DeepMind has partnered with Apptronik to advance humanoid robots for dynamic environments.

While most humanoid robots today are designed for general-purpose tasks such as aiding in household chores, their deployment in specialized professional fields has been limited so far.

According to Donatas Karčiauskas, CEO of Exergio, we need to break this pattern and start using humanoids in professional use-cases, such as energy management in commercial buildings.

“Application of humanoid robots can be used beyond household tasks. They have plenty of potential in professional environments,” said Donatas Karčiauskas. “Managing energy in commercial buildings is complex. It’s not just about turning off lights or adjusting the thermostat. It requires real-time monitoring, predictive analysis, and the ability to act fast. AI-powered humanoid robots can process vast amounts of sensor data, identify inefficiencies, and respond instantly to anomalies. For example, a robot can detect an overheating component before it fails or pinpoint false alarms that would otherwise waste time and resources.”

The humanoid robots used by Exergio will be equipped with NVIDIA’s GR00T system, which has an advanced AI framework designed to enhance perception and motor skills.

Unlike proprietary humanoid AI models, GR00T offers open accessibility, and allows companies to train and adapt robots for their specific needs.

“We chose the NVIDIA GR00T platform because it provides the adaptability necessary in  real-world industrial applications,” explained Karčiauskas. “With GR00T, we can train robots to conduct on-site equipment inspections, detect early signs of system failures, and respond to alerts faster than human operators. In theory, such robots can verify false alarms, analyze inefficiencies in HVAC systems, and even assist in emergency scenarios by guiding personnel to safe exits. We’re here to train them.”

Exergio’s expertise in AI-driven energy management comes from years of optimizing large commercial buildings, where efficiency gains translate directly into cost savings. The company’s AI-based solutions applied in shopping mall Ozas in Vilnius, Lithuania, helped reduce energy waste by 29% and save more than €1 million.

The extensive amount of data from different types of properties, ranging from hotels to office buildings, will help train humanoid robots to operate effectively within different energy management scenarios. It will also ensure the robots are well-equipped to analyze, predict, and respond to energy system inefficiencies. The first training phase for Exergio’s humanoid robots will begin this month.

“AI has already changed the way we optimize energy in commercial buildings, but humanoid robots bring a new level of functionality. They can physically verify system alerts, inspect critical equipment, and assist in maintenance. That will reduce downtime and improve response times. This will create both energy efficiency but also create buildings that can actively manage themselves,” concluded Karčiauskas.

The first ASIMOV Meetup of 2025 didn’t waste time setting the tone for the year ahead. With AI moving from theoretical breakthroughs to real-world deployment, four industry leaders took the stage at Zentral DWTC to dissect the trends shaping the global AI landscape—unfiltered, unscripted, and without the usual buzzword bingo.

The event, supported by MARSES Robotics, Conreality, Haltia.AI, and CodersHQ, wasn’t another “AI will change everything” talk. Instead, the focus was on what’s happening right now—how AI is already being used to reshape industries, where Dubai fits into the race, and what startups need to know to survive in the era of autonomous intelligence.

Key takeaways from the night

  • “AI is done being your assistant. It’s becoming your competitor.” Steve Nouri, founder of GenAI Works, painted a stark picture of the new reality: more than optimizing workflows, AI systems are increasingly autonomous, taking over decision-making and creative processes that were once the domain of human experts.
  • The UAE’s AI Seal is coming—are businesses ready? Chris Dorrow of Dubai Future Foundation discussed the country’s push to set global AI standards through regulation that could either fuel or fracture innovation.
  • Breaking language barriers or creating new ones? Akshat Prakash from CAMB.ai revealed how AI is enabling real-time multilingual communication, but warned that “bias and context gaps are still massive problems that could lock out entire populations from AI-driven economies.”
  • Deep tech isn’t just for academics anymore. Haochen Sun of MBZUAI showcased how research breakthroughs are making it out of the lab and into AI startups that are already reshaping finance, healthcare, and government infrastructure.

Not just talk—a glimpse into what’s coming next
The panel moderator and co-founder of the ASIMOV Initiative, Talal Thabet, closed the panel by saying, “it is clear that the UAE and many other countries are using AI for global integration, while the US is working toward global domination, and China is powering its AI for global independence. Whatever the strategy, AI must be used to enhance human potential equally, irrespective of where we are in the world.”

The panelists agreed on one thing: 2025 is the year AI stops asking for permission. From self-regulating AI models to decision-making agents embedded in critical industries, we’re moving beyond predictive algorithms to fully autonomous systems that do more than just recommend actions—they take them.

As Dubai positions itself as a global AI powerhouse, events like the ASIMOV Meetup are proving to be where the real conversations happen—away from PR spin, and in front of an audience that actually builds things.

Haltia.AI shares its perspective on the defining trends of 2025. The convergence of AI, blockchain and decentralized systems is revolutionizing how technology is built and deployed.  As AI evolves into fully autonomous systems, the coming year marks a turning point in how industries innovate, optimize, and build resilience.

Agentic AI Takes Center Stage
“2025 marks AI’s evolution from passive tool to active strategic partner, ushering in the age of autonomous enterprise intelligence,” says Talal Thabet, CEO of Haltia.AI. “Agentic AI systems are becoming indispensable, independently executing tasks ranging from automating intricate supply chains to driving enterprise-level strategy. The future lies in systems that explain decisions while safeguarding privacy”

The next wave of AI development brings multimodal systems that seamlessly integrate text, vision, and voice capabilities, enabling richer, human-like interactions across applications—from customer service to enterprise automation. The growing demand for privacy-preserving AI has led to breakthroughs in homomorphic encryption and zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring secure and transparent use of data while adhering to stringent regulatory requirements.

Infrastructure Meets Innovation: The Backbone of Autonomous AI
AI’s growth is redefining infrastructure, compelling industries to rethink scalability, latency, and security. Decentralized compute networks are emerging as viable alternatives to traditional cloud providers, offering enhanced scalability and reduced latency and vulnerabilities. With AI systems becoming more sophisticated, zero-trust architecture is no longer optional but essential for protecting against evolving threat vectors.

“Current AI infrastructure is facing an evolutionary bottleneck,” notes CTO Arto Bendiken. “Next-gen systems rely on decentralized networks for resilience, quantum-proof cryptography to withstand future threats, and edge computing for real-time, secure intelligence.”

Enterprise Evolution: Moving from Concept to Impact
Digital twins are advancing into self-governing ecosystems, capable of simulating and optimizing complex systems in real time. Process mining technology is revolutionizing how organizations understand and automate their workflows, while analytics platforms are transitioning from passive dashboards to decision-making systems that anticipate and act on challenges.

“We’re witnessing the emergence of truly AI-native businesses, rewriting the rules of business operations” says Thabet. “When machines handle 80% of routine tasks, this will set new standards for efficiency and human creativity reaches unprecedented heights. Focused AI models are surpassing generic systems, driving breakthrough results in healthcare, finance, and manufacturing—transforming these industries into benchmarks of innovation.”

Emerging Frontiers: The Next Phase of Technology
Brain-computer interfaces (BCI’s) are entering early-stage commercial use, particularly in accessibility and healthcare, blurring the line between human and machine intelligence. Synthetic biology is harnessing AI to accelerate breakthroughs in protein design, reshaping how we innovate in medicine and materials science. Meanwhile, AR/VR technology is finding practical applications beyond entertainment in enterprise settings, redefining training, operations, and collaboration in industries such as defence and engineering.  Standardized APIs are turning robotics into modular, plug-and-play systems, opening doors to broader adoption across diverse industries.

“Technology is now delivering the convergence of ideas that were mere theoretical constructs a decade ago. The simultaneous maturation of brain-computer interfaces, synthetic biology, and standardized robotics platforms creates a technological inflection point that will define the next decade,” added Bendiken.
