YEB was a carefully curated initiative featuring illuminating sessions led by eminent professors, seasoned industrialists, and accomplished alumni. The program seamlessly integrated hands-on activities, offering students unparalleled exposure to state-of-the-art laboratories, interactions with multinational corporations, insights into global investment trends, and a dynamic exploration of the innovative startup landscape.

The official inauguration of YEB 2023 saw distinguished speakers, H.E. Laila Rahhal El Atfani, President & Founder of Business Gate & Women Business Circle, and Prabhakar Reddy, an esteemed BPDC alumnus and co-founder of the Unicorn company FalconX, gracing the event. Professor Srinivasan Madapusi, Director of BPDC, captivated the audience with his wisdom and experiences.

In her inaugural speech, H.E. Laila Rahhal El Atfani emphasized the importance of knowledge acquisition in the entrepreneurial journey. She urged aspiring entrepreneurs to prioritize skill development, focus on leadership, overcome challenges with meticulous preparation, seek advice from experienced individuals, and maintain a resilient and proactive mindset. Prabhakar Reddy provided valuable insights into his entrepreneurial journey, underscoring the pivotal role of education and the significance of initiating ventures early.

Nine teams, comprising 50 students from India, Indonesia, and the UAE, presented their business ideas to a distinguished panel of judges. Team Netra AI secured the first place for their AI-based device for the visually impaired. Mentors expressed their intention to support the winners with potential funding, and special awards were granted to outstanding participants in categories such as Humanitarian, Risk Taker, Open-Minded, Creative, and Entertainer.

YEB also featured hands-on workshops on IoT, 3D printing, and idea generation led by industry experts. The program included sessions on business law, ethics, and finance, enriched by virtual interactions and practical insights.

Dr. Srinivasan Madapusi, Director of the BITS PILANI Dubai Campus, commenting on the success of EMPOWER, said, “Younger generations are inherently entrepreneurial and risk takers, hence we at BITS Pilani encourage that our students grow in to this culture of trying new things and innovating. The goals of this event included a greater understanding of how to mold a business idea, expanding professional networks, fostering peer-to-peer relationships and gaining knowledge. The Pitchverse competition brought together the innovators from different universities in the UAE. Teams such as Unitors, Macrolabel, Appetit.me, Robosafe came from universities like SP Jain, Canadian University of Dubai, Heriot Watt & Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management amongst others.  After fierce 2 rounds, Relphacare, a social healthcare tracking platform that enables real-time communication with doctors, won the winning  prize of upto AED 10,000 as winners of Pitchverse.

Talking about the win, Nikitha Abigail, founder of Relphacare said  “The only way RelphaCare Technologies could have come alive in the way that it did, was through the collaboration among students on different campuses. We’ve got students on our team from universities like Amity, BITS Pilani, SP Jain, RIT and more. It’s great to see how innovation brings people together, forming communities   that solve one problem after another.”

The winning team itself is a testimony of how innovation can thrive when different players of the startup ecosystem come together as one.

Going forward these select 20 startups will be powered by Kregzo to receive one to one mentorship from best business leaders, resources, virtual incubation & access to resources worth $150,000 that a university level start up needs to scale up effectively.
